I know I can't say this without sounding like a snob, but it needs to be said: If you can write that well, you can read a book. The real story is an order of magnitude deeper than what any film maker, no matter how talented, can ever produce. It makes the film better, not worse.
I'm sure that's true, and in the vast majority of cases I prefer the book to the movie. That said, for some reason, fantasy and sci-fi tend to work better for me on the screen than on the page. I love the LOTR movies, but I struggle with Tolkien's books. Perhaps I'll one day pick up "Dune" and give it a try; it's not for a lack of wanting to like the story, so much as knowing my own history with the genre. That said, I'm currently making my way through the Dark Tower novels and loving them, so maybe there's hope for me yet!
